Community Volunteer Network
Niverville Recreation and Wellness is starting up a new project called the Community Volunteer Network. We are working to bring local organizations and event planners that need volunteers together with people from the community who want to volunteer.

We are looking for organizations to register their Call for Volunteers and community people to register as potential volunteers specifically outlining their areas of interest and availability. With the information from organizations and community members, we can begin matching volunteers with potential placements.

With this initiative we are is striving to meet three goals: One, is to make it easier for volunteers to find places where they want to give their time and to open the door for people who have thought of volunteering but weren’t sure where to go. Two, is to gather together the places in our community that need volunteers. The third goal is to highlight and celebrate the commitment of our community volunteers. Many of the great events, services, projects and programs our community offers happen because of volunteers.

As this is a new project, any feedback/suggestions are welcome as to how we can make this even more successful.

If you have any questions please contact Robyn at recreation@whereyoubelong.ca
(or 388-4078 ).

GPS Loan Program

Due to a grant from MB In Motion, the Niverville Recreation and Wellness Commission is excited to announce that we are offering a gps loan program, where you can borrow a gps unit to go geocaching, go on an adventure, or more! Also available will be informational books on Geocaching.
What is geocaching? Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

Pedometer Loan Program.

The Town of Niverville's Recreation and Wellness Commission has initiated a pedometer loan program sponsored by Manitoba in Motion that will be available to all residents. The Town of Niverville is a "community in motion" and this program will continue to help our residents reach the goal of becoming healthier by encouraging walking activities.
A pedometer is a simple tool that is used to count the number of steps you take. If walking is your main form of exercise, it is recommended that you reach a goal of 10,000 steps per day. The average person walks 3,000 - 4,500 steps in 30 minutes when walking briskly. Walking has many physical, emotional, and social benefits and assists in the fight against obesity, cardiovascular disease and other illnesses associated with inactivity.
As a member of the program you will receive a pedometer, personal tracking sheets and other walking resources to get you started for a $15 deposit.  Once the pedometer has been returned, you will receive your deposit back.  If you are interested in participating in the pedometer loan program you can either call Donna @ 388-4600 ext 110 or stop by the Recreation Office.
